Jasmin Singer, the National Advocacy Organizer for Farm Sanctuary, gives quick witty responses to 5 questions and statements that vegans are asked all the time. It’s fabulous to have the knowledge base to be able to launch into a lengthy, well researched response to questions such as the infamous “where do you get your protein?” However, it’s always nice to have short (and fun) responses on hand. I like to carry some vegan pamphlets with me so that I can then give people a brochure that they can read on their own time.
Be sure to stalk check out Jasmin Singer and everything she’s up to because she’s involved in a lot of innovative projects like Farm Sanctuary’s Advocacy Campaign Team.

Don’t think I’d use that protein one, makes it sound like we eat grass.

I’ve been a vegan since 1995 and it has been 30 years since I became a vegetarian. I’ve tried all different ways responding to people. Based on my experience, I predict her responses would be more likely to drive people away than open their mind to changing how they eat. No disrespect to anyone.

These responses are great. And “beforewisdom,” I’d imagine that she was just giving some snappy comebacks and not speaking for overall communication skills. Even when responding with empathy and patience, it’s nice to throw in a one-liner every now and then that shows that vegans have a sense of humor!

I’m planning on making a video with more thorough answers to these 5 common questions eventually! I agree that serious answers are more valuable and persuasive–this was just a fun video to show that things don’t have to be so serious all the time
