Clueless but Happy?

Clueless but happy. The idea that if you don’t know about problematic, cruel or hard things that are happening around you, you don’t have to worry about them and can toodle about your life as if the issues don’t exist. Sounds great, right?

Wrong. Ignorance is NOT bliss, for anyone, yourself included. And yet this is the angle so many choose when facing animal cruelty issues. They cover their eyes and stick fingers in their ears saying “Nah Nah Nah I Can’t Hear You Nah Nah” when you turn on a video or share information about cruelty. We’ve all been there–most likely on both sides.

But even though it’s hard, uncomfortable, inconvenient and sad to learn about atrocities happening around you, it’s so important. Because if not you, then who will help?

Everyone looks back in history to slavery and genocide, and most of us think: “If I was there, I would have done something. I would have been a good one. I would have stood up and helped enact change.” Well…you have the opportunity and (dare I say) moral obligation right now!

But it all starts with learning. Educating ourselves about the issues, the problems, the situations that are taking place around the world. And Bleating Hearts, a new book by long-time animal activist and author Mark Hawthorne, is a great place to start.

In this video I chat with Mark about what inspired him to write this new book, how he did the 5 years of research, and more. I hope you’ll check out the video and rip off your blinders by reading this book. I guarantee you will learn a lot that you never could have even imagined.
